About BuildWithAICo

A Canadian innovation lab where service robotics teams gain the space, tools, and mentorship to turn ambitious automation ideas into deployed systems.

Our mission

BuildWithAICo exists to lower the barrier for Canadian organisations adopting service robotics. Hospitals struggling with supply chain bottlenecks, warehouses facing labour shortages, and research groups prototyping novel assistive platforms all share a common challenge: robotics is complex, capital-intensive, and unforgiving of shortcuts.

We created a dedicated lab environment where teams can experiment rigorously, fail safely in simulation, and graduate to field pilots with structured support. Our approach combines open engineering practices, PIPEDA-conscious data governance, and deep familiarity with the regulatory landscape governing robots in Canadian public and commercial spaces.

Unlike generic coworking spaces or vendor-led demo centres, BuildWithAICo is built by robotics practitioners for robotics practitioners. Every bench, every simulation licence, and every mentor hour is oriented toward one outcome: your robot working reliably in the environment where it matters.

Leadership

Dr. Elena Marchetti — Research Lead

Dr. Marchetti brings fifteen years of experience in mobile robot navigation and healthcare automation from roles at the National Research Council and two Ottawa-area medtech startups. She leads our research agenda on safe human-robot coexistence in dynamic indoor environments and oversees mentor allocation across all client engagements.

Under her direction, the lab has published peer-reviewed work on elevator-aware navigation for hospital delivery robots and contributed to CSA working groups on service robot safety. She holds a PhD in Robotics from Carleton University and remains an adjunct lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering and Design.

Our team

BuildWithAICo employs robotics software engineers, motion-planning specialists, simulation architects, and deployment coaches — all based in the National Capital Region. We maintain a bench of visiting mentors from partner universities and industry to ensure clients benefit from diverse technical perspectives.

Values that guide every build

Safety first

Every design decision is evaluated against human safety. We advocate for conservative operational envelopes, clear human-robot interaction protocols, and thorough risk assessment before any pilot goes live.

Open engineering

We favour transparent architectures, documented configurations, and transferable knowledge over proprietary lock-in. Clients leave with code, runbooks, and the competence to maintain their systems.

Canadian context

From bilingual UX requirements to cold-storage battery performance, we engineer for the realities of Canadian operations — not generic templates imported from other markets.
